Actions as President
In 1975 Cambodians took over the SS Mayguez, a merchant ship. Ford decided to take action. There was 39 crew members on the ship and they all made it back safe. But 41 United States soldiers lost their lives in the process.
The last of the troops in Vietnam left during the Ford administration. Many took this as a loss. The SS Mayguez was a way to show that even though we struggled in Vietnam, we are still not to be messed with.
He also made a program that could pardon draft dodgers. Only a fraction of the draft dodgers applied for this program so it was not very effective.

Gerald Ford oversaw the very important withdraw of troops from Vietnam. He also tried to show that the United States we were still a world power by taking back our merchant ship. But in over taking the ship he lost two extra lives than he saved. He also tried to pardon draft dodgers even though they had not followed previous presidents Commander-in-Chief exercises. This makes the fact that they did not serve their country when called to okay even though it is not.
